The solar system is almost inconceivably vast.  Hopefully, this
illustration will provide some perspective.

Below is a giant depiction of the solar system showing the
distance between planets to scale.  The planets are shown as
tiny dots as close to scale as I could make them.  (Look for the
dot, not the illustration of the planet above the dot.)  As small
as the dots are, they are still much too big.  It's just not practical
to make them any smaller.  Besides, if they were any smaller,
you wouldn't be able to see them on your screen.

Included are distances from the Sun and Earth, how long it would
take to travel there from Earth in an Apollo space capsule (maximum
speed 25,000 MPH), and how long it would take to travel there
from Earth in a car going 100 MPH.  The graphic extends far to
the right, so you'll have to scroll quite a way to reach Pluto!

...and for Pete's sake, don't try to print this page unless you have
a really wide piece of paper!
